15 Years in the Making
We love a good cup of coffee, and when we tried Conscious Bean Coffee from North Central College, we knew we found a new favorite. Hearing the story of the coffee, only made us want to do more.
Students and faculty of North Central College's Enactus group have been working directly with the farmers for over 15 years. They travel to the region twice a year as part of the direct trade partnership, and we were fortunate to go with them this past summer. We saw first-hand the impact of making socially responsible choices and wanted to figure a way to combine the coffee with our love of bass fishing.
As you enjoy your piping hot cup of Morning Bite or Buzz Bait, you can know the following:
The farmers who grew the beans received a fair price, around double what they would receive through other means thanks to the direct trade relationship which removes the unnecessary intermediaries
The coffee bags are compostable
Students enjoy hands-on learning experiences
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the gift boxes goes to help support youth fishing programs.
The coffee: 100% single origin Arabica coffee sourced from the Atitlan region of Guatemala. Shade grown in rich volcanic soil, our coffee is produced and harvested at an ideal altitude of 5,200-6,000 ft. above sea level. Roasted at a light, medium, or dark level, this coffee has tasting notes of cocoa, citrus, peach, berries, slight floral, and caramel. The coffee is roasted and packaged in North Central College's Coffee Lab.
